6.5 Grendel AR Build Guide
6.5 Grendel AR Build Guide
A 6.5 Grendel AR project uses the AR-15 platform with cartridge-specific barrel, bolt and magazine requirements. BMTC USA offers 6.5 Grendel within the Blue Ridge rifle family and supports component sourcing and custom AR projects.
Start With the Barrel, Bolt and Magazine
Choose components specifically intended to work with the selected 6.5 Grendel configuration and verify manufacturer specifications before combining parts.
Plan the Operating System Together
Barrel configuration, gas system, bolt-carrier group, buffer system and ammunition should be evaluated as one operating package. Do not assume visually similar components are interchangeable.
Match the Rifle to Its Intended Role
Handguard, trigger, stock, optic and supporting accessories should be selected around the intended use and the dimensions of the core rifle components.

6.5 Grendel AR-15 build: what to choose
6.5 Grendel fires a 6.5mm bullet and is known for retaining energy at longer range. It runs in an AR-15 lower with a Grendel-specific bolt, barrel and magazines.
Key choices
- Barrel: a 6.5 Grendel barrel, commonly 16 to 20 inches, with a twist that fits heavier bullets.
- Bolt: a Grendel bolt, since the case head is larger than 5.56.
- Magazines: use magazines made for 6.5 Grendel. Standard 5.56 magazines are not a match.
- Optic: a magnified scope suits the cartridge's longer reach.
Confirm every part is rated for 6.5 Grendel before you order.
