AR Charging Handle Guide
AR Charging Handle Guide
Charging handles are simple to compare visually, but correct selection starts with the receiver platform and the rifle’s intended use. BMTC USA carries AR charging handles and related upper-receiver components through our national catalog and supports local AR projects in the Palmetto and Bradenton area.
Confirm the Receiver Platform
Choose a charging handle intended for the exact upper-receiver platform. AR-15 and large-frame configurations can use different dimensions, and manufacturer-specific receiver systems may have additional requirements.
Standard and Ambidextrous Designs
Charging handles are available in conventional and ambidextrous configurations. The useful choice depends on shooter preference, optic placement, equipment setup and how the rifle will be operated.
Handle Size and Clearance
Larger latches can offer additional purchase but may also interact differently with optics or other equipment around the upper receiver. Compare the charging handle’s dimensions with the complete rifle configuration rather than evaluating the handle by itself.
Suppressed-Rifle Considerations
Some charging handles incorporate design features marketed for use on suppressed rifles. Treat these as one component within the complete operating system; suppressor use, gas-system configuration and ammunition can all affect how a rifle behaves.
