BCG Compatibility Guide
BCG Compatibility Guide
A bolt-carrier group should be selected around the exact AR platform, cartridge family, upper receiver and intended use. BMTC USA carries bolt-carrier groups and related AR components through our national catalog and supports local AR projects from our Palmetto, Florida shop.
Start With the Platform and Cartridge
Do not assume every bolt-carrier group marketed for an AR-style firearm is interchangeable. Confirm that the carrier and bolt are intended for the receiver platform and cartridge family being used. Manufacturer specifications for the barrel, bolt and carrier should be checked together.
Match the Bolt to the Barrel Configuration
The bolt and barrel extension must be compatible with the intended cartridge and component specifications. A build assembled from mixed brands should be evaluated by the published specifications of the individual manufacturers rather than by appearance alone.
Carrier Configuration and Related Components
Carrier design, gas-key configuration, firing-pin and cam-pin compatibility, buffer system and upper receiver can all matter to the complete operating system. Establish component compatibility before evaluating performance characteristics.
Replacement Versus New-Build BCGs
For a replacement part, identify the existing platform and original specifications first. For a new project, choose the barrel and cartridge configuration before finalizing the bolt-carrier group so the major operating components are planned together.
