Suppressor Buying Guide

The short answer: pick the suppressor that matches your host firearm’s caliber and thread pattern, then choose a mount style and size that fit how you shoot. BMTC USA in Palmetto, FL carries 498 suppressors from leading brands. To buy from us, see our Suppressor Purchases page.

1. Match the caliber

Every suppressor is rated for a maximum caliber. Choose one rated for the round you shoot most. Many rifle-rated models are also listed for smaller calibers; always follow the manufacturer’s rating.

2. Match the thread pattern

Your barrel’s threads decide what fits. Common patterns include 1/2×28 and 5/8×24 on rifles and pistols. If your threads differ, a thread adapter or a different model may be needed.

3. Choose the mount style

Direct thread screws straight onto the barrel: simple, compact and lighter. Quick detach mounts to a muzzle device so you can swap the suppressor between firearms quickly.

4. Think about size and weight

Shorter suppressors are easier to carry and balance; longer ones generally reduce more sound. Consider the length and weight on your host firearm.

5. Consider material and finish

Titanium is lighter; stainless steel and Inconel are tougher for high-volume use. Cerakote finishes add color and wear resistance, and BMTC offers gunsmithing and Cerakote service in Palmetto.

Frequently asked questions

What does the thread pattern mean?

It is the size and pitch of the threads on your barrel or muzzle device, for example 1/2×28. The suppressor must match it or use an adapter.

Direct thread or quick detach?

Direct thread is simpler and lighter. Quick detach is faster to move between firearms but adds a mount.

Can one suppressor fit different firearms?

Often yes, if the thread pattern and caliber rating match each host, using adapters or a quick-detach mount.
